Update: while it works, I decided to just use a tablet split-screen for maps and music. Less hassle especially when my family members using IOS use the car."

"I'm using this with my old Pixel 6 as an Android Auto head unit. With fastboot I set the P6 to power on when it starts charging from the USB port, and since it's rooted with Magisk, I have service.d scripts to launch Headunit Reloaded at startup, and to power off the P6 20 seconds after I shut the car off. HR creates a hotspot on the P6, and Wifi Launcher on my phone starts trying to connect to Android Auto when my phone connects to BT on my car radio. It all works flawlessly."

"It is a little quirky to get started. Once it is configured, it has been rock solid for me. I use it daily on a pixel4a as wired headunit w/ a wireless adapter. I have had it running on a pixel2, pixel4a and pixel7. I have also used it in "self mode", wired, and wireless modes. The wired mode is very reliable, The wireless mode using the AAwireless app is pretty reliable, but the android wireless "can" take a long time to connect. Self mode seems reliable, but the display has some oddities."
