It could've had some lore put into it though, even if cryptic.. to turn that atmosphere into a proper world and not leave everything up for speculation. Also, it could've provided more clues and foreshadowing for certain puzzles so they're not completely unpredictable and their completion doesn't rely on at least one death.. to solve puzzles with your mind rather than your life."
